Maidstone 1 Folkestone 1: As it happened…

Really good game and a very encouraging performance by Maidstone who had the better chances and were unlucky not to win. Ref getting pelters from both sets of fans. Report and reaction tomorrow!

FULL-TIME: 1-1. Folkestone have a good couple of minutes of possession but don’t create anything. Maidstone win a free-kick, but Court’s second cross is easily cleared. Hamblin cleverly wins a free-kick to snuff out a Folkestone attack. Folkestone get a long throw. Court runs through the entire Folkestone defence, very slightly overhits it. Boruk goes down – from this angle I didn’t think it was a penalty, but the Elvis End disagree violently.

90+4: Two subs coming on for Maidstone. Leahy and Gravata off, Chime and Boruk on.

90+2: Yellow card for Leahy, after a tactical foul. Gravata was on the deck so he tried to stop play. FK Folkestone, goes straight out of play for a goal kick.

90: Sense both sides are settling for a point here, intensity has dropped slightly in the last five, but there are six added minutes.

84: Court cuts in but his shot is deflected and easily saved. Josh Strouts, son of double-winning Maidstone midfielder Jimmy, is coming on for Folkestone, replacing Pigott. West is on for Thomas.

82: Half-chance for Gravata, close range but can’t get round the defender. Still 1-1.

79: Outstanding drive from Hanson from 25 yards, tipped over by Collins. Corner to Maidstone. Sub, Charles is off Tuck is on.

73: Woodyard off (for real this time) Machado on for Folkestone. Foran can’t direct a Court free-kick and another chance goes begging. Folkestone have got a mixture of some real quality and some really nervous players. Lokko is one of the former.

71: Good chance for Maidstone but the attacker on the right can’t get any power on it.

66: Maidstone pressure building. Couple of corners come to nothing. Another Folkestone sub, Young on for Quick. Some confusion about the new injury sub rules and time-wasting. Invicta are down to ten for a minute for delaying the restart.

61: Maybe Maidstone’s turn to get lucky with a penalty shout. Seen ’em given.

59: Yellow card for Ben Mason after he takes out Leahy.

57: 1-1: Charles!!!!!! Court wins a free-kick. Knocked back across the box and Charles bundles it in from a yard.

54: 1-0 Folkestone. Great strike by Lovett but against the run of play. Brilliant volley tbf. Attendance nearly 2900, maybe 300 from Folkestone. Gravata and Court had been having some joy.

46: We’re back underway. Maidstone legends Mal Watkins and Terry Cordice are in the house. Folkestone are making a sub. Lovatt is on for Woodyard.

HALF-TIME 0-0: Absolutely no idea how that’s goalless. Maidstone having the better chances, and one very strong penalty appeal. Words ben exchanged between Fagan and Saunders and the number twos.

44: Fuck me. Gravata wiped out in the area, no penalty. Love to see a replay of that. Suggestion the defender got the ball …

42: Now Holden saves from Pigott, pushing a volley round the post. Corner to Folkestone. Reminder of Pigott’s quality, just in case anyone had forgotten.

39: Long-range effort from Fowler, comfortably saved, but great move in the build-up.

37: Gravata shoots, Collins spills it straight to Charles, but redeems himself with a point blank save. Still 0-0.

36: Court close again. Curls a shot just wide after yet another break down the right. Folkestone look very weak on the left, but dangerous on the counter.

30: Court header hits the bar then a huge shout for a penalty for handball. Still 0-0 somehow.

28: Riley waltzes through the defence and shoots straight at the keeper. Both sides making each other’s defences look weaker than the lager Folkestone’s fans were throwing in the Medway earlier.

24: Court’s first touch lets him own after he’s played in by Leahy. Very good chance. Then Folkestone counter and the chance is blocked… not easy on the ringpiece this.

21: Great save by Holden, out to smother at Cosgrove’s feet after he was played in by Thomas. End to end, Gravata attacks, but the cross is straight at the keeper.

19: Chance for Folkestone, good ball in by Kedwell, but Smith drags his shot wide.

13: And now Leahy hits the post! Great move in from the right, having a lot of joy there, burst into the box and it hit the wrong part of the post.

11: Great ball in by Leahy, Court can’t get proper contact on the shot. Best chance yet.

9: Yellow card for Harvey Kedwell after tugging Riley Court’s shirt.

8: Ball’s in the net for Folkestone but only after the referee blew for a foul that was obvious to everyone bar some excitable media types. Still 0-0.

4: The Folkestone fans are singing “Maidstone’s a shithole”. Lads …

1: Early free-kick for Folkestone easily dealt with by Holden, and now Maidstone have a corner. Opens up for Court but his shot is blocked.

KICK-OFF: Teams are attacking the ends their fans are behind in the first half, the now standard bullshit. Very disappointing.
